John R. McDonnell
Senior Partner & Co-Founder
John has over 25 years of experience in the insurance and managed care industry. In 1998 he co-founded Progressive Benefit Solutions, one of North Carolina’s leading consulting and insurance brokerage firms.
His previous experience includes sales and marketing for Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and Connecticut, Cigna Health Plans and MedSpan, a managed care network in the northeast.
Prior to forming Progressive Benefit Solutions, LLC his most recent role was Regional Director Central Region (Raleigh and Greensboro markets) for Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina where he managed a staff of 50 employees. He is well versed in managed care, consumer driven health plans, underwriting, medical claim administration, dental, life, AD&D, Short Term Disability (STD), Long Term Disability (LTD) and Voluntary Plans.
He holds an MBA in Healthcare Administration from the University of New Haven and a BA in marketing and accounting from New Hampshire College. John is also involved in the North Carolina Health Underwriters Association, Capital Area Soccer League and Saint Michael’s Parish.
